HOW IT WORKS

How the Safe Sex Passport System Works

Press Kit

Overview

The Safe Sex Passport (SSP) Card System provides an independent, third-party verification of the SSP cardholder’s STD/HIV health status obtained through medical lab test results. It is a confidential, secure and convenient method of communicating the cardholder’s STD health status to any person the cardholder allows to receive the information.

The SSP System is designed for simplified purchase, straightforward activation and ease of use. The actual SSP Card serves as the consumer's gateway to the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, which both verifies the cardholder's identity and then communicates the cardholder's test results to the caller.

Step 1: Purchase & Activation

The SSP Card can be purchased online at www.SafeSexPassport.com. Following purchase and registration, the cardholder is referred to an affiliated medical lab for testing. After testing, the cardholder is informed of the test results and the results are loaded into SSP’s secure database system. The cardholder’s unique passport card number and user defined security code can then be used to access the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system for test results. The SSP cardholder then has complete control over who they share their test results with by having that person use their card to call the IVR system.

Step 2: Invite To Access Results

Instructions on how to use the SSP system are printed on the back of each SSP card in English, Spanish and French. After dialing a toll free number to access the Safe Sex Passport system, the caller is instructed to enter the SSP card identification number on the front of the card. The IVR system then requests the cardholder's personal security access code. This is a four-digit number that the cardholder selects at the time of card registration and verbally gives to the caller.

Step 3: Receive Test Results

Following card validation, the caller is asked to verify the cardholder's identity. The caller is given the last 3 digits of the cardholder's previously registered photo ID. After this double layer of security and ID verification has been successfully completed, the IVR system will release test results data to the caller. This prevents stolen or lost cards from being used and a person's identity from being discovered by simply viewing the card. The cardholder's name nor photo are on the card.

Step 4: Renew and Retest

SSP cardholders will be retested every six months in accordance with guidelines issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Every SSP Card automatically becomes inactive six months after STD testing, and test results cannot be accessed. The SSP card can be reactivated only after a new STD/HIV test has been performed and the results have been loaded into SSP's secure database system.
